April 27 Update:
Hello families!
First, I want to say how bummed I am (although I was expecting it) that I won't be seeing your students in person for the remainder of the school year. My passion for teaching music really lies in making music with your kiddos in front of me. That being said, I am coming up with some fun activities to take us to the end of this school year!
Second, please be sure to have your students check their school email and Google Classrooms *daily*. As this is my primary means of communication at this point, it is imperative that your student stay connected through those means. Additionally, Google Classroom is where each week's assignments are posted (with exit tickets and other feedback) - so please be diligent in checking that daily.
Third, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns - please feel free to connect with me via email or Remind. I know that there are questions I cannot answer at this time, but I will do my best to find out that information and get back to you with it.
I miss my students dearly, and I hope that everyone stays safe and healthy during this time.
Love, JM

April 20 Update:
Hello families!
Just a reminder that I posted the assignment for this week on Google Classroom last night.
Students who do not have their instruments will be able to complete this lesson.
If your student does have his or her instrument, they are still welcome to complete the assignment OR they can submit a recording via Smart Music. I am here to help with any technical issues that you may have - please feel free to email me with a question or concern.
I miss you! Stay well.

April 17 Update:
I will be posting next week's assignment on Sunday night for you to access.
This week's assignment is due Sunday night. Please don't hesitate to ask questions.
Beginning Monday during my office hour (1-2pm) I will be available via email.
I will be on Google Meet upon request. Please let me know via email if you would like to meet.
Finally, I have posted a fun activity for you to do with your family this weekend in Google Classroom.
It's a Flipgrid where you can share some of the recipes that you have been learning from and with your parents during the closure. Once you've uploaded the video, please email me the recipe so that I can compile them in one place and make a digital cookbook. We're accepting names for the cookbook right now!

April 14 Update:
To log in to our Google Meets, use the nicknames I posted in Google Classroom to join!
Be sure you are logged into your Wake ID in order to be allowed to get in. It will *not* work with any other email besides your school email address. These nicknames will be used each time we have a meeting.

April 13 Update:
Hello West Millbrook Families!
I have uploaded assignments to your student's Google Classroom. There are two this week. One is outlining my expectations and one is the actual assignment. Both have Google Forms that need to be completed at the end of the slideshow. These assignments will enrich your student's musical knowledge and understanding. Please email me if you have any questions.
My schedule is as follows:
M-F / 1pm - 2pm, Office Hour via Google Meet/Email/Remind
**If your student has questions about assignments or needs help with something on their instrument, this is the time for that.
Tues / 10:10 - 10:30, 6th Grade via Google Meet
Wed / 10:10 - 10:30, 7th Grade via Google Meet
Thurs / 10:10 - 10:30, 8th Grade via Google Meet
**Please note, your student does not need to attend the Google Meet unless he or she wants to or has a question. This is just a
time where they can ask clarifying questions and get feedback on their assignments or playing.
Stay safe. Stay hydrated.
Love and miss you!
- Mrs. Martel
April 7 Update:
Hello West Millbrook Families!
I want you to know that I am thinking about all of you and I love hearing how you are doing during this time of great uncertainty. Additionally, I want to provide resources for your students to do while we try to figure out this new normal.
First, I post a new fun Flipgrid for students to do each day in Google Classroom. These will help students feel more safely connected to others as well as help me get to know each of them better.
Second, I will be posting new resources for your student to continue on their musical journey on Google Classroom beginning April 13. If your student doesn't have his or her instrument, there will also be activities for them posted there, too. Classroom codes can be emailed to you upon request.
Second and 1/2, I have secured a free trial subscription to Smart Music. Please look for a how-to video and class codes via email and Google Classroom. Contact me if you have any questions.
Third, please let me know how you are doing. I want to be able to help you navigate this new normal as well. We are all in uncharted territory, but we will get through it together. Please do not hesitate to reach out via email or Remind - I am here for you!
Lots of love,
Mrs. Martel
